21 Dec Where Are They Now: Tugg Speedman

Dreamworks has announced the re-release and remastered Bluray & DVD of Tugg Speedman’s classic “Simple Jack”.  It contains special features and interviews offering insight into the production of this film.  Tugg Speedman goes in depth to explain how he prepared for the role and how, as he put it, “spent a lot time with retarded people”.  He’s quoted in the DVD as saying “In a weird way, I had to sort of just free myself up to believe that it was ok to be stupid or dumb”.

The limited edition Bluray & DVD also features some harsh criticism from Kirk Lazarus, stating [Tugg] should have never had gone full retard — here is an excerpt: “Check it out. Dustin Hoffman, ‘Rain Man,’ look retarded, act retarded, not retarded.  Counted toothpicks, cheated cards — autistic, slow, but NOT retarded.  You went full retard, man.  Never go full retard!”

Although Simple Jack was rated PG, the remastered Bluray & DVD will have an R rating for it’s use of the R word.  Parental guidance is advice and the DVD will be available everywhere December 18th.
